07/10/2007 - Samsung Electro-Mechanics Announces Agreement to Make X2Y® Capacitor Technology

On July 10th, Samsung Electro-Mechanics signed an agreement with X2Y Attenuators LLC to produce and sell capacitors that incorporate the patented X2Y® Technology. This agreement marks the start of a cooperative effort to bring Samsung Electro-Mechanics’ high-capacitance X2Y capacitors to market to meet increasing global demand.

X2Y® bypass capacitors are one tenth the inductance of conventional capacitors and have two main application uses: superior EMI suppression to help customers meet EMC Compliance, or low inductance bypassing to maintain Power Integrity for Integrated Circuit (IC's) devices such as CPUs, ASICs, FPGAs, etc. In both application uses, X2Y's enhanced capability can remove as many as 5~8 passive components used for noise reduction.

A significant portion of all MLCCs are used for power delivery to meet the ever-lowering impedance requirements of modern IC's used in high-speed/high-performance electronic devices. Circuit designers are rapidly switching to ultra-low inductance X2Y capacitors to meet these requirements. Samsung Electro-Mechanics is an innovator in the manufacturing of MLCCs and the company’s new product line of high capacitance X2Y capacitors deliver an advanced power delivery solution for use on the IC package, and around the IC on the printed circuit board.

Samsung Electro-Mechanics has become the leading electronic parts maker in Korea and a major world player. Sales for FY 2003 reached 2.6 trillion won (approximately US$2.9 billion). For more information about Samsung Electro-Mechanics, please visit the company website at http://www.sem.samsung.com.

05/07/2007 - X2Y® for Amplifier Filtering

X2Y capacitors are used extensively for amplifier filtering and decoupling. In either application use, X2Y replaces multiple components multiple passive components. In a previously published article, it was shown that X2Y could replace three tight tolerance film capacitors with a single component to lower system cost. This information was later published by engineers at Analog Devices Inc. in A Designer’s Guide to Instrumentation Amplifiers, 3rd Edition , also published on the company's website. In a new article titled Interference Suppression Using a Balanced MLCC , recently published in Interference Technology by publisher rbitem.com , X2Y® is also shown to be able to replace a large common mode choke, which is also commonly used as an input filter for RFI suppression for Instrumentation Amplifiers. Engineers interested in improving performance and reducing costs in Amplifier circuits should check back on the X2Y website often for new articles published on this subject.

For over thirty years, ITEM Publications has been the information source for engineering professionals dealing with interference problems-preventing EMI (electromagnetic interference) and achieving EMC (electromagnetic compatibility).
